Before coming to Japan, John Owens appeared as an actor in the Torch Song Trilogy in Tampa, Florida. After some time in New York, he moved to Japan in 1997. In Tokyo, he has starred in Tokyo International Players (TIP) productions such as Fiddler on the Roof and Of Mice and Men. He has also served as a director for TIP productions including Amadeus and Blithe Spirit. He is a member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) and has 24 years of experience teaching English in Tokyo.
